NO Pass,NO Play

In the State of Texas for sports we have something called UIL which means University Interscholastic League. Out of 50 states Texas is the only one to have an academic law where if you don’t pass with a 70/75 or higher you are not allowed to play sports. The UIL has many rules that apply to the academic learning. The rule makes it very hard on some kids who have trouble in the class room, but it gives them the urge to keep trying to pass their classes. When the rule first came into action in 1985 it made many kids mad. They thought with this new rule that many of them weren’t going to be able to play the sports they loved. The new rule had made it hard on the athletes and the coaches, coaches were trying their hardest to make sure that their athletes weren’t failing their classes so they would be able to play on game nights and not just sit there on the bench. Coaches were very worried about their players not being able to play so they did everything in their will to help their athletes in order to pass every six weeks. The UIL has some rules that can be bent in someways to help out the athlete that may be failing his or her classes. As when spring break rolls around all athletes are considered passing but once you come back from spring break the athlete that is failing or so is no longer considered passing so there for they are not able to play their sport. This new UIL rule had became in hope of helping athletes get better at their school work and to help get a scholarship for the sport and the good academic learning skills that the athlete has. This UIL rule was a big change in the begging but now it helps athletes push harder in the class room and the field.
